What they have in common is that they are all perennials and are celebrated for their beauty and colorful, fragrant flowers. Some filled with single petals, others half double or double filled with a diameter that can reach up to 25 cm. Grown for thousands of years, the peony originated in China where it is considered a symbol of wealth, love, prosperity and happiness.
An ideal flower for any bridal bouquet, floral arrangements or just at home in the garden or vase.

The peony is also known in the trade term as the luxurious Latin 'Paeonia', the god of healing. In fact, the peony herb has been used as a traditional Eastern medicine for hundreds of years.
Paeonia is divided into several varieties. Which ones we offer of these are Lactiflora, Hybrid and Itoh.
Listed below are all the species names, these are as many as a thousand, but each with its own target audience.

A frequently asked question, "the difference between different varieties of peonies?"
Because these differ quite a bit. We explain below 4 groups:

Lactiflora: An herbaceous species and the most common popular peony, think Sarah Bernhardt, for example. Lactiflora often grows in the mid and late segments. Needs a little more cold compared to the Hybrid and propagates well. Is excellent as a cut flower.

Hybrid: Besides the Lactiflora, Hybrid is also common and is ideally suited for warmer areas. Because it does not need much cold to bloom. They often grow in the early segment and has few side buds. Hybrid propagates reasonably well. Is also excellent as a cut flower.

Itoh (intersectional): This is a cross between a tree peony and the herbaceous peonies. You will find these more common in gardens and parks. Itoh produces a beautiful bush that does not fall over and in which the leaves remain green until they die in the fall. The root below ground is woodier compared to the former. Eye development takes place more on the stem and the flower is not suitable as a cut flower: stems are too woody and the length usually too short.

Tree Peony (suffruticosa): This is a multi-stemmed woody shrub and can grow up to 1.5 to 2 meters with smaller flowers: 5-7 cm. This one also doesn't lose its leaves until autumn, the stem stays above ground and you don't need to prune it away. It is just like any tree, only with beautiful flowers. Every spring the leaves and flowers bloom again.
